![]() But since then, it's firmly cemented itself as a compelling alternative to Photoshop, offering many of the same tools and features for adjusting and manipulating images, as well as tools for design. Affinity Photo is much newer, developed by Serif in 2009 and launched in 2015. It was the first image editing software to be made available to the public and it's maintained its dominance as the industry-leading image-editing software ever since. Adobe's Photoshop was developed by Thomas and John Knoll in 1987 and was sold to Adobe Systems Inc in 1988. Recently software like Clip Studio Paint comes out with their own version of subscription plan, even though every time they marketing themselves its all about the " no subscription" as one of their main selling point.First, a bit of history on Affinity Photo vs Photoshop. And giving the level of influence that Apple has on Affinity, I can tell you that being affordable and consumer friendly will not be their long term strategy. There is nothing out there that will tell us they won't bump up their price and starting to introduce subscription plans once their software can rival Adobe. Although they have made some major changes/ updates in the right direction, at the end of the day they are a company and we are the customers, the moment we let them getting too comfortable they are going to milk on us. Sorry for the long ranting, I want Affinity to become better and I "was" Affinity fanboy, but they have let themselves down quite substantially, mainly on their weird business decisions. Every excuses are "apple" say this, "apple" say that. From the way they wording it, it seems like they are working very hard so that one day they can get Apple to acquire them, assuming it did not happen already internally. According to Affinity it is because of "Apple" don't allow it or whatever. As most software companies will have some sort of loyalty/ upgrade discounts for their current customers. Why is it like that? Of course there are workarounds on a 7/8 pages long thread in Affinity forum so it is not a big deal, but honestly who were the one that making all this weird ass decisions? And lastly, absolutely 0 upgrade discount for v1 owners. Secondly, their website were down for entire 1 or 2 days because they were updating their website for v2.0 launch, which is a very weird thing as who take that long to update their website? Also you have to install Affinity on Windows as an app, which then prevent you from able to choose your own install directory. Previously the idea of having to buy seperate licence for Windows and Mac OS is a very weird decision, but could be justify because of the cost, but whatever the case is it is all sorted now. Now, Affinity has starting to show that they might not be very reliable. ![]() However if we talk about the whole Affinity suite vs Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign then I prefer Affinity Suite over the Adobe ones. There are a few areas where Affinity Photo outshines Photoshop but as an overall software there is no competition between the two, yet. If we just talking about Photoshop vs Affinity Photo? No question I would go with Photoshop.
